As Japan warms, cherry blossom displays are fading

Excerpt: Last week in the International Journal of Biometeorology, researchers reported that cherry trees are not only blooming earlier in the year, but in some parts of Japan, they are failing to reach full bloom at all. Although the problem is currently confined to southern Japan, the authors warn that in a matter of decades, milder winters may start to take a toll on major cherry blossom–viewing hot spots in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka, as well as around the world....
